Ensuite & Small Bathroom

Ensuite & small bathroom renovations.

Space-smart ensuite and powder-room renovations that make a small footprint feel bigger — frameless screens, wall-hung vanities, hobless showers and clever niche storage. Same compliant build, smaller room.

Making small feel big

How we get more out of a tight footprint.

Frameless & semi-frameless screens

Nothing shrinks a small bathroom like a framed enclosure or a shower curtain. A frameless or semi-frameless glass screen lets the eye travel through to the wall, so a Highton ensuite or a Newtown powder room instantly reads larger. We size and fix screens to suit the opening rather than dropping in a standard kit.

Wall-hung vanities & hobless showers

A wall-hung vanity shows floor tile running underneath it, which tricks the eye into seeing more floor. A hobless (step-free) shower keeps the floor as one continuous surface instead of breaking it with a hob and base. Both are small moves that make a real difference in an ensuite under 5m².

Storage that doesn’t steal space

Recessed shower niches set into the wall cavity, mirrored shaving cabinets that sit flush, and slim wall-hung storage all add function without eating the floor. In tight Geelong ensuites we plan storage into the framing stage so it’s built in, not bolted on.

Light, tile & ventilation

Large-format tiles with fewer grout lines calm a small space; good LED lighting and a mirror opposite a window bounce light around. And in a small, hard-used ensuite a correctly ducted exhaust fan (vented outside, not into the roof cavity) is essential against Geelong’s coastal humidity and mould.

Realistic Geelong pricing (2026)

  • Budget / cosmetic small-bathroom refresh: $8,000–$15,000
  • Complete ensuite renovation (licensed trades, quality finishes): $10,000–$20,000
  • Powder room / very small footprint: from $8,000

A small bathroom is cheaper in materials but not in labour — the trades still have to do the full plumbing, waterproofing, tiling and electrical work in a tighter space. That’s why a small ensuite rarely costs half what a main bathroom does.

Why we don’t cut corners on waterproofing

Small ensuites are the worst offenders for hidden leaks — they’re used hard, often poorly ventilated, and frequently the first room a previous owner “DIY-ed”. We never tile straight over an old membrane to save a day. Every ensuite is stripped to substrate and re-membraned to AS 3740, cured, and certified before tiling, exactly the same as a full bathroom.

Same standard, smaller room.

A smaller bathroom is not a smaller compliance job. VBA registration, domestic building insurance where the contract exceeds $16,000, AS 3740 certified waterproofing and a licensed plumber’s Compliance Certificate all still apply. We do an ensuite to exactly the standard we’d do a main bathroom — the only thing that shrinks is the floor area.
